Christmas Crafts 2011

Ok, so I haven't posted anything in the past few...well, many months. Life happened--it always does. But I just wanted to a take a moment to post some fun Christmas projects. My mother, SIL, and I all put our heads (and hands) together and cranked out some crafts to sell at the Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm. Our dear friends own the place and were so gracious to let us park our crafts there for the season. Here is a sneak peek of what you'll find there. So head over, get a tree, a wagon ride, some free candy canes/cocoa/cider, and some crafts!!! Excuse the terrible pictures...they look WAY better in person. Trust me...or go see for yourself.

What a chore

Recently I have been thinking that we need to get our little 6 year old on track with some basic chores. I mean, don't get me wrong, she does help out around the house. I just wanted to get something going a little more regularly. Here is the solution. I found this magnetic white board at Staples for like $3 (pen included) and it works great. The boxes get checked off as she does her chores throughout the day. At the end of the day--if she has completely all the chores that are applicable to the day--she gets a check down at the bottom. When all 20 boxes are checked, she gets an awesome reward. Something big and exciting...sounds like the perfect plan to me! Plus, I don't have to take the garbage out anymore.

Collage

One of my good friends--who has a great eye for clever and crafty things--likes to email me vinyl ideas every once in a while. She sent me a link for the cutest halloween collage and I did my best to make something similar. Halfway through the designing, she got an even better idea to make one for thanksgiving too and put it on the back of the halloween collage. A two-fer kind of deal. She and her friend now have one-of-a-kind collage boards because I lost these files in the great computer crash. With a little luck, I can one day get my data recovered and be reunited with these cuties!

So, where have I been? I wish I had a decent answer for that. I had a baby, so there's one excuse. I have two other kids, so there's two more excuses. Anyhow, I am making a sad little attempt at a post. I made these two boards for my wonderful SIL. I LOVE HER! My last computer gave its life to get these made. Yep, my old computer died. Unfortunatly, I hadn't backed anything up for nearly a year. Ugh...I am going to try and forget it (at least for a few minutes).

New Boards

So, in the summer I donated a board for an auction at our church. The idea was that I would make any kind of vinyl board that the winner wanted. Finally, after months of waiting, the board is finished! It was done with dark brown vinyl and a cream paint. Here is how it turned out:

My SIL (to be) helped me out with a craft fair in December in exchange for me helping her with some gifts. Here are the designs we came up with. I LOVE the black/white/yellow family name one.

Ok, people. I have been working like crazy to get ready for Saturday. What? You haven't heard? Well, good friends of ours own an awesome Christmas Tree Farm. They were asked to set up a booth and sell wreaths at the Kirkland Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony this Saturday (November 28th) from 4-8pm. They asked me to sell some crafts at their booth too. There was no way I would be able to mass produce enough items to sell, so I enlisted my mother, SIL, and my bro's girlfriend. We came up with some really great stuff! And as much work as it has been creating these crafts, I have thoroughly enjoyed it! Please come down and see us on Saturday if you are in the area...and buy something too. Make-It and Take-It--or leave it

Thanks to Mary for that title--very clever. My life has been consumed with crafts this past week for our ward's upcoming Make-It and Take-It activity--similar to a Super Saturday. Here are some of the things we came up with to offer.

Canvas Quote Board

Ok, so quite a few people signed up for the brown/beige version of this. ZERO have signed up for the orange one. I like it--am I crazy for this? Maybe. What is your honest opinion on it? I am contemplating redoing it with something more boring--I mean, neutral.

Wood Block Calendar

My mom found something similar to this at Ben Franklin and figured we could replicate it. Turns out, with the help of my dad, we did it! Not exact, but close enough. Thanks mom (and dad)!

Glass Block Nativity

I know, I know...maybe this isn't entirely original. However, I am able to offer it to our ladies for a MUCH better price than you can find anywhere else. I might as well use my vinyl cutter for some good, you know?

Potholder Emergency Kit

No, it doesn't have vinyl, but it's fun! My SIL had one of these in her purse and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make one--using my own choice of fabric. Cute, square, decent-sized, side looped potholders are sooooo hard to find these days. Sew some resealable bags down the center, stuff them with goodies, stick it in your purse/car and you will be prepared for anything. Well, maybe not anything. But definitely for a headache or nail snag.

Punkin Face

I found some cute little glass jars at my favorite discount grocery store last week. At $1.49, I couldn't pass them up! This idea immediately popped into my head as soon as I saw them. Simple, easy, but cute--not to mention yummy.

Enough with the BOO blocks already, right?! Well, I think I will make just one more set for me. Not sure who this set is going to. I just think these ones look nice next to my little punkin face.

Supersize Tree

So, my friend wanted a giant vinyl tree on her wall. By giant, I mean about 6.5 ft tall. I was kind of glad she asked for something like this because I have never gotten to do any vinyl on this large of scale. We learned a lot of tips/tricks to use for application in the process. I think it turned out darn cute! She plans to use it as a family tree and place picture frames with family photos on the branches. I am excited to see how it turns out.

Joy Blocks: Take Boo--I mean, Two

I finally did it. My husband had plenty of scrap wood in the garage and I found some cute Halloween paper in the dollar section at Target. So I went for it. I love when decorations work for more than one holiday. Saves on space--which I so desperately need more of!

Dishin' it out

More sandblasting...how cool is this? Have you ever been left at the end of a large potluck trying to figure out which dish is yours? Well, never again! I have tried personalizing baking dishes with etching cream, and I have to tell you--it doesn't produce the same level of quality as sandblasting does. The etching cream will not work on older pyrex dishes. Plus, sandblasting produces an etch that is more visible (crisp) and won't fade like the etching cream ones will. This is the only way to go...thanks sandblaster!

Drink up, it's yours!

My husband and I played around with his sandblaster and found out we could do this to waterbottles. Neat, huh? Who wouldn't want their very own personalized waterbottle? They are perfect for sports teams or just keeping others out of your drink. Say "no" to sharing germs.

Tweet Jars

I found some really cheap jars (at my favorite discount grocery store in the world) and came up with this idea. The vinyl can be modified to fit the season (Valentine Tweets, Easter Tweets, just plain Tweets). Fill them with a tweet and give them away!

This is a little project that my sister and I did last holiday season. I was thinking of doing one for Halloween (B-O-O), but haven't found the right background paper. Each letter is on its own painted block of wood with cute scrapbook paper that makes the vinyl letters pop. Each block is about 7 inches tall.

Family is forever - on canvas

I have been playing around with vinyl on canvas lately and came up with this little number. I kind of like it myself. It is done using a 16" x 12" canvas. Let me know if you are interested in purchasing the finished product or just the vinyl. As always, the color scheme can be customized. I wonder what I will do next with the canvases sitting in my office? Hmmm...
